A new year, a new resolution, new lessons that have been and will be learned. Looking back on 2017, where has your writing taken you? Sunsets and Spices Indian Writing Retreat – Feb. 10-20

Award-winning novelists and India aficionados, retreat hosts Hazel Manuel and Anjana Chowdhury are tucked away high up in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu — and you could be too. Tropical Writer’s Toolkit – Feb. 20-25

Himalayan Writer’s Workshop – April 9-19

Throughout this 10-day workshop, attendees will work in small teams to create a finished short work of collaborative fiction as well as venture out on scheduled excursions to pilgrimage sites within Nepal. Hosted by Alice Campion, the only group-writing commercially published fiction author in the world, this is a workshop where established and aspiring novelists can come together in a supportive environment to work cohesively and create. The regular program fee of a double occupancy is $2,980 USD (an extra $400 for a single room depending on availability) which includes full accommodation fees at Hotel Vajra, Namo Buddha Resort and the Dwarikas Hotel; three vegetarian meals per day; day trips including all entrance fees and knowledgeable guides as well as airport transfers.

Cambodia Travel, Food Writing and Photography Retreat – May 20-27 or July 1-8

Laura Dunston and Terence Carter of Granturismo Travels have put together a one-week workshop designed to help digital nomads in the ever-growing travel industry. Whether you are just starting out and haven’t discovered your niche in the market just yet, or if you want expert advice on how to strengthen your skills, this retreat covers that and more. For $2,955 USD per person, you can delve into Cambodian culture with cooking classes, experience the markets and local cuisine, as well as attend both writing and photography workshops, coaching and support sessions. Never one without the other, this rounded photography and writing workshop will grant you “enough content to craft a compelling story, series of blog posts and a strong set of images to accompany it,” according to the website.

The International Writing Life, Authors At Large – May 31-June 6

For the more established writer, looking to finalize manuscripts, then this writing retreat in Hua Hin, Thailand, is for you. Hosted by Authors At Large (AAL), the upcoming workshop will be led by co-founder Xu Xi and joined by the award-winning Ira Sukrungruang and Chantelle Aimee Osman. Mornings are reserved for private writing time, and two to three manuscripts will be discussed during afternoon workshops, followed by evening talks about publishing and writing skills. Catering for non-fiction (memoirs, essays), fiction (novels, short stories) and genre fiction (sci-fi, fantasy) writers, the retreat focuses intensely on your personal skill-set. The cost is $700 USD per person, but current and former AAL clients enjoy a 10% discount, and accommodation is $450 for the week for a large room or $340 for a small room.  

Write Your Journey: Vietnam – Sept. 21-28

Venture out deep into the heart of Southeast Asia in this holistic writing retreat just outside of Hoi An. Bike through rice paddies and devour street food after daily yoga classes, then write about your experiences under the supervision of yoga teacher and writing coach Kerstin Pilz. Through a mixture of group and one-on-one writing sessions, this retreat aims to ignite your creativity through your exploration of authentic Vietnam. All inclusive at $1,550 USD per person, this mix of work and play is ideal for those experiencing the disease of writer’s block, or perhaps are in need of visual stimulation to spark their usual flow.
